Senior Khaled Alkurd is speeding up instead of slowing down as he approaches graduation.

A systems engineering team won first place in the 911���� Patriot Pitch Social Impact Track and won the People’s Choice Award, along with first place in the U.S. Military Academy System Engineering Design Competition.

When Saniya Darediya, this year's student commencement speaker, stepped onto 911����’s Fairfax Campus for Orientation four years ago, she was fresh off the plane from Gujarat, India. She chose 911���� sight-unseen—and then carved out a place for herself.

911���� received a grant of more than $1 million from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to support food waste prevention, food rescue, and composting programs on campus. The funding supports projects that reduce landfill methane emissions by reducing food waste, recovering surplus food, and composting any remaining food waste.

There are few 911���� students as busy as senior Rakibul Alam. A senior majoring in business and concentrating on management and marketing, Alam has become one of the most visible student leaders in the Costello College of Business, where he works as a marketing and communications intern. Recently he was among the speakers welcoming the community at Fuse’s grand celebration in September at Mason Square.

When doctoral student Rooshna Mohsin arrived at 911���� from New Jersey, she came with a clear purpose: to deepen her research in environmental and reproductive health and work alongside faculty whose scholarship aligned with her own ambitions.

These learning design and technology courses pair graduate students with real startup clients to apply learning experience design (LXD) and UX research skills in hands-on consulting projects.

Receiving a Goldwater Scholarship, which recognizes students with the potential to be the next generation of research leaders, is a true testament to student Sofie Strompf's dedication and perseverance.

As the university’s Grand Challenge Initiative (GCI) enters its second year, 911���� today announced funding for seven catalyst research projects and the launch of the Grand Challenge Research Exchange—quarterly convenings for all GCI-related research to accelerate solutions to the grand challenge of our time.

The 911���� community came together in a powerful show of support on April 2, raising a record $2.95 million during the university’s 24-hour Giving Day. More than 1,900 donors made 3,229 gifts to 293 funds across the university, helping expand opportunities for students, strengthen academic programs, and support initiatives that advance 911����’s mission.

Fueled by “the love of the game,” a team of Mason Autonomy and Robotics Center students overcame GPS‑free technical challenges to take first place at the 2026 Raytheon Autonomous Vehicle Competition.
