911���� researchers Cynthia Lum and Christopher Koper are testing solutions to help local police departments balance limited resources while strengthening public trust.

Sporting green and gold Air Jordan sneakers, 911���� student Samantha Lewis rose from her wheelchair and put one foot in front of the other.  Less than four months after complications from medical treatments left her without feeling in her legs, Lewis walked across the stage to receive her bachelor’s degree at the 2025 College of Humanities and Social Sciences Degree Celebration on May 16.  

When Dawn Lowry, the director of 911����’s forensics team, recruits prospective students to join the university’s intercollegiate speech team, she reviews videos of high school competitions.  A competitive speech coach for more than 30 years, Lowry remembers being blown away the first time she watched footage of now economics major Prem Ganesan in action.

Senior of the Year Haley White said double majoring in business and art history was one of the best decisions she made during her time at 911����. Her second best decision was joining the Mason Chooses Kindness initiative.

From her small hometown of Ruther Glen, Virginia, to the bright lights of New York City, Gilda Squire, BA Communication ’95, has forged a career that has led Squire from the federal government through Wall Street, into book publishing, and finally landing as a powerhouse talent manager for some of entertainment’s brightest stars.

Senior anthropology major Zain Alzubaidy recently completed an internship with the United States Department of Commerce. He worked in the Advocacy Center, a government service that provides commercial diplomatic support to American businesses in foreign markets.  

Senior and men’s basketball guard Jared Billups might have joined 911���� as a transfer student, but in his two years here, he has managed to leave a historic mark.

Tyler Kocak is graduating with an MEd in secondary education after a successful tenure on the 911���� wrestling team.

When 911���� junior Megan Miller toured the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center, she didn’t realize she was being interviewed for an internship position. 

In February, 911����’s Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy (CEBCP) within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, hosted its 12th congressional briefing at the U.S. Capitol, focused on “Preventing Gun Violence.”
