In January, 911���� senior Angela Victoria Rojas Rivera represented the university at the National Collegiate Research Conference (NCRC). Led and hosted by Harvard University, NCRC is the largest student-run research conference in the United States. Only 200 students are selected to attend. 

The 2026 Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar-Athlete Awards have been announced. Meet the four Schar School students who are not only elite athletes but elite scholars.

On February 4, Transfer Nation 2026 welcomed transfer and contemporary students for an afternoon focused on connection and reflection. As part of 911����’s First-Year Connection programming, the event emphasized community-building and highlighted the academic and personal support systems available across campus.

This academic year, 911���� graduate student Samantha “Chevi” Chung has had a research opportunity that few have had by participating in a yearlong workshop at the Folger Shakespeare Library.

For just the second time, more than 70 911���� student-athletes have earned the Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar-Athlete Award for their outstanding academic achievements. Following a record-breaking 78 honorees last year, 74 student-athletes were recognized during a ceremony held in February.

Mason Competitive Cyber teamwon first place at the ninth annual Commonwealth Cyber Fusion and Virginia Cyber Cup. The high‑intensity, four‑hour capture‑the‑flag competition showcased their skill, teamwork, and growing leadership in Virginia’s cybersecurity community.

Honors College student Marisa Parikh embodies the drive, curiosity, and global mindset that define 911���� students. She serves as president of Be the Change, a student-led organization dedicated to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on campus. Under her leadership, the group focuses on raising awareness and inspiring action around the goals that most directly affect 911���� students. 

HackFax x PatriotHacks 2026 united two 911���� tech communities for a high‑energy Valentine’s weekend hackathon, blending workshops, industry networking, and student creativity into one collaborative, community‑building event.

911���� student Ilia Malinin closed out the 2026 Winter Olympics with a powerful closing ceremony gala performance — a fitting final chapter to an Olympic journey defined by grit and audacity under pressure.
