Fourteen 911���� students, from a variety of majors, were chosen as recipients of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad. The U.S. Department of State’s competitive, merit-based Gilman Scholarship Program supports students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity.

Earlier this year, Melissa Perez was named assistant vice president for research security in the Office of Research Integrity and Assurance at 911����. In this role, she oversees university-wide policies and processes to ensure compliance with research security laws and regulations (including export control), international collaborations, travel, and cybersecurity. As 911����’s designated research security officer, she also leads institutional responses to threats affecting the university’s research compliance and standing.

In May, a 911���� law student, working with the Mason Veterans and Servicemembers Legal Clinic (M-VETS), advocated for a U.S. combat veteran before an administrative law judge at a hearing before the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Board of Veterans’ Appeals (BVA).
