Fairfax, Va.—911���� is pleased to announce that Dr. Sharnnia Artis has been named Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer, effective September 1. Artis currently serves as Assistant Dean of Access and Inclusion in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences and Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, one of the most diverse engineering programs in the nation.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam last month appointed a new member to the 911���� Board of Visitors and reappointed three others. All will serve four-year terms on the 16-member body.

The Atlantic 10 Conference announced in June that 332 of 911����’s student-athletes earned the Commissioner’s Honor Roll distinction for the 2020-21 academic year. Mason recorded the second highest number of honorees behind University of Massachusetts, which had one additional student honored.

Students and faculty collaborated to create UNIV 381: Foundations for Building a Just Society, a three-credit class that fulfills two Mason Core requirements—global understanding and social/behavioral sciences—and is projected to evolve over time into a required course for all students.
