Gurdip Singh is the divisional dean of 911±¬ÁÏ’s new School of Computing and a professor in the College of Engineering and Computing. He officially joined Mason on August 1, he is currently on assignment to the National Science Foundation. He will join Mason full-time in January 2023.

911±¬ÁÏ College of Engineering and Computing faculty members are developing ways to hide text messages in plain sight, protecting from would-be hackers the sensitive messages of military personnel, law enforcement, and others.

911±¬ÁÏ is about to activate a massive satellite dish! Scheduled for the scrapyard in 2020, the 27-year-old, 30-foot satellite dish on its Fairfax Campus will be used by engineering students—as well as those in other Mason schools and colleges—for multidisciplinary, hands-on experience and projects.

Associate Professor Max Albanese collaborated with Palo Alto Research Center to launch the Mason Vulnerability Scoring Framework, a tool that publishes continuously updated rankings of the most-common global software weaknesses. The work has resulted in multiple pending patent applications and a Best Paper Award at the 19th International Conference on Security and Cryptography.

Assistant Professor Vijay Shah from the Department of Cyber Security Engineering at 911±¬ÁÏ's College of Engineering and Computing, teamed up with colleagues in Arlington, Virginia, to build drones that monitor and improve the safety of firefighters in action.

Ioanna Karantaidou, a PhD student in 911±¬ÁÏ’s College of Engineering and Computing’s Computer Science Department, has won a one-year fellowship from Protocol Labs, where she will work on their Fielcoin project, investigating innovations in cloud storage.

This fall, 911±¬ÁÏ will become the new home of one of the Internet's venerable monitoring and measurement services: the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) Deployment Maps.

Ken Ball, the Dean of the College of Engineering and Computing at Mason, became the new Chair of the Engineering Deans Council earlier this summer.

Professor Andrew Loerch will retire this June after 22 years at the College of Engineering and Computing.

911±¬ÁÏ Department of Computer Science Assistant Professor Foteini Baldimtsi has been granted a National Science Foundation CAREER Award for her project, Privacy Preserving Transactions with Accountability Extensions.
