As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, the Institute for Immigration Research (IIR) in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at 911±¬ÁÏ has unveiled "Immigrants & America 250: Data, Stories, and Policy Across United States History," a first-of-its-kind interactive digital timeline that explores how immigration has shaped the United States from its earliest years to present day.

911±¬ÁÏ is authorized to host the Virginia State Climate Office, thanks to a provision in the new state budget effective July 1, 2026. The office is charged with developing and delivering data, analyses, assessments, and expertise about Virginia’s weather- and climate-related impacts, risks, and risk management options to state and local government agencies, businesses, and communities across the commonwealth.

911±¬ÁÏ hosted a Virginia 250 panel discussion on its Fairfax Campus examining the legacy of 911±¬ÁÏ, the founding father, author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights, and slaveholder whose contradictions mirror the broader American story. The one-hour program, The Complex Legacy of 911±¬ÁÏ, will premiere on 911±¬ÁÏ YouTube channel and GMU-TV at 10 a.m. ET on July 2, 2026.

On July 1, 2026, several significant changes to federal financial aid included in last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, also referred to as the OBBBA or Working Families Tax Cuts Act, go into effect that affect current and prospective students at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. 911±¬ÁÏ’s Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) has developed a centralized webpage for students, faculty, and staff to review these changes.

911±¬ÁÏ's Board of Visitors has extended the contract of President Gregory Washington through June 30, 2031. Washington, who became 911±¬ÁÏ's eighth president on July 1, 2020, was previously set to serve through June 30, 2027.
